Boreal Light’s Water Kiosk is an entrepreneurship driven profitable enterprise, which seeks to deliver safe water at an affordable price to low income consumers in East Africa. Using solar powered Winture desalination technology, the Water Kiosk is able to desalinate and purify locally sourced water to the same level as bottled water without the costs associated with sealing or transporting this water. Every kiosk delivers 5000 liter of hygiene safe water per day to cover a community of 2500 people. Registered customers are able to dispense water into clean jerrycans, which are provided by the local operator who manages the Water Kiosk. The Water Kiosk is supported by several additional revenue streams including mobile charging, the sale of small items such as hygiene products and grocery items, and medicine. On the medicine sales, Boreal Light has a contract with local pharmacy company in Kenya to rent space inside the water kiosk and deliver customized type and brands of medicine to off-grid communities.
Every Water Kiosk generates minimum 2 jobs, plus 2 other value added jobs in their local communities!
